Ebuyer.com – misleading edeals newsletters
September 3, 2011 on 9:41 am | No Comments
This post doesn’t relate to seo, online marketing, penetration testing or any of the normal subjects I cover. It’s just a plain ol’ regular moan.
Generally, ebuyer.com gets a big thumbs up from me. Their prices are generally very competitive, usually only a little bit pricier than what you’d find on ebay – but with the obvious advantage that you’re buying from a reputable company rather than a random person.
Their shipping setup simply cannot be beaten. You can order up to 11pm and they’ll have the item on your door step the next morning (or perhaps lunch)!
Those are the good points, but there’s one major gripe I have with ebuyer.com. their edeals newsletter is often so misleading! For example, showing a picture of a 8gb USB stick with the price of £3.99 but clicking through to the website reveals its just a 4gb stick.
I’ve spoken to ebuyer.com about this before and they basically just said that it was a mistake and they don’t purposely mislead.
This is the most recent edeals newsletter to have been emailed out:

And then these are the real prices after you click through to the website:

So as you can see, the prices on the website are not even close to the amazing prices shown in the edeals newsletter.
The keen eyed readers out there might have noticed that the edeals newsletter quotes prices as being ‘from £x.xx’. So perhaps there’s similar matching products that really do start at those prices.. I searched the site:
- Cheapest TFT monitor: £59.99
- Cheapest Ext. HD: £29.99 (160GB,less than the 500GB quoted in newsletter)
- Cheapest media player: £16.98 (very outdated in terms of quality and format support)
- Cheapest IP camera: £50
As you can see, even choosing much lower quality products than those advertised, you still can’t get anywhere near the prices quoted in the edeals newsletter.
I’ve sent this post to ebuyer and hope that they’ll take note and try prevent this recurring issue from continuing.
