Paypal temporary mastercard / gift card

I just found out about a Paypal feature that I never knew existed! I really can’t believe I’d never known about this before..

You can download a plugin for firefox/IE which allows you to generate a temporary mastercard (mastercard gift card). Basically you want to pay for something which cost $50 but the place only takes credit cards, not Paypal.. no problem, this will generate some mastercard credit card details that will use your Paypal balance. Extremely useful!

If however you’re one of the smart people using Mac OS X..

Mac users cannot install the PayPal Plug-In at this time. However, you can still use the Secure Cards feature of the plug-in.
How it works:

* Go to the Secure Cards page.
* Generate a unique MasterCard Secure Card number.
* Note the card number, expiration date, and the CVC2.
* Enter these details at checkout.

  1. We live in a world where the only freedom is inside our head, to think Mac OS X offers freedom of thought because of symbolisation with Eris would be naive… especially as microsoft own 50% of Apple…..

  5. Any idea how they handle AVS (Address Verification) on the card numbers? I’m guessing they do support it and use the PayPal account’s primary address, although it seems a little too easy to game. i.e. Create a drop address in PayPal, set it as your primary address, then you can get around issues where the merchant only delivers to the credit card holders address.

  6. I’m not sure if the same security rules apply for temporary/gift cards. It might well be that Mastercard give back an ‘A OK’ signal on any address on gift cards.

It’s suprising how many companies still don’t do AVS anyway..

Try generate one and pay for a domain with a dummy address and see if it gets declined or not..
